How Climate Impact Partners Is Helping Fujitsu To Bridge The Net Zero Gap: Credibly and Strategically.

Fujitsu, a global technology leader, is advancing its net zero ambitions through a strategic partnership with Climate Impact Partners to credibly address its emissions and build a sustainable climate strategy aligned with science-based targets.

The Ambition

With a commitment to leading through carbon guidance, Fujitsu is continually working with Climate Impact Partners, to use high-quality carbon credits to unlock a credible, employee value aligned, risk-managed path to net zero.

Key Climate Goals:

  • Committed to net zero across Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and Scope 3 emissions by 2040, aligned with science‑based targets.
  • Offset approximately 9,000 tons of CO2e over three years to address remaining, unavoidable emissions.
  • Achieve Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) certification to reinforce transparency and demonstrate best-practice climate disclosure to stakeholders.

The Challenge

Fujitsu sets ambitious net zero targets. Delivering them with credibility and validity requires more than reductions alone. With unavoidable residual emissions, increasing scrutiny on carbon markets, and the need to meet Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and CDP expectations, the company needs a transparent approach that reduces delivery risk, engages employees and maintains trust.

The Action

Fujitsu is combining emissions reduction across its operations and value chain with targeted use of carbon credits for residual emissions and pilot innovation projects, including our Accelerate CDR program. Climate Impact Partners collaborates with Fujitsu to develop a balanced carbon portfolio across carbon credits and early stage support of emerging CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removal) projects, leveraging specialist expertise and tools to ensure quality, transparency and stakeholder engagement.

Fujitsu uses carbon credits to:

  • Apply carbon credits only to remaining, unavoidable emissions, in line with Fujitsu’s net zero strategy and reduction‑first approach.
  • Design a balanced carbon portfolio spanning renewable energy, nature‑based solutions (including afforestation), and early-stage support in engineered removals, prioritizing projects aligned with Fujitsu’s operational footprint, particularly in India (e.g. Orb Rooftop Solar, India), and the UK (supporting UNDO Enhanced Rock Weathering).
  • Launch the Step Up for 90 program to mark Fujitsu’s 90th anniversary, creating a visible, long‑lasting impact through mangrove and tree‑planting initiatives.
  • Contribute to permanent carbon removal, supporting forward‑looking innovation through Climate Impact Partners’ Accelerate CDR program and providing early‑stage support to new Direct Air Capture (DAC) and Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) projects.
  • Achieve CarbonNeutral® event certifications, including the 2024 Responsible Business Workshop, reinforcing credibility across operational activities.

How Fujitsu Makes the Business Case for Climate Action

  1. Building trust through local relevance: By prioritizing projects in regions where Fujitsu operates, especially India and the UK, the company strengthens the credibility of its climate action and links investment to local impact.
  2. Reducing future risk: Securing high-quality carbon credits now helps Fujitsu manage market risk and stay on track for its 2030 and 2040 net zero targets.
  3. Strengthening governance: An SBTi-aligned strategy, supported by CDP certification, improves carbon accounting, reduces delivery risk, and increases cost predictability.
  4. Driving internal buy-in: Ongoing ESG reporting, Sustainability Champions, and employee webinars help build understanding and support for Fujitsu’s climate strategy.

The Impact

Fujitsu’s climate strategy delivers measurable ecological and social benefits while addressing the scale of its global footprint. Through a carefully selected portfolio of carbon projects, supported by Climate Impact Partners’ expertise in environmental storytelling, Fujitsu strengthens both its external climate communications and internal stakeholder engagement.

  • Restoration of coastal ecosystems through mangrove planting in Kenya: supporting biodiversity, natural shoreline protection, and long‑term ecosystem resilience as part of Fujitsu’s 90th anniversary legacy initiative.
  • Enabled real‑world climate impact through a diversified portfolio of projects: spanning renewable energy, nature‑based solutions, and carbon removal, supporting emissions reductions and ecosystem restoration beyond Fujitsu’s direct operations.
  • Delivered place‑based climate action aligned to Fujitsu’s global footprint: with a strong emphasis on projects in India and the UK, creating tangible environmental outcomes in regions where the company operates.
  • Amplified environmental impact through visual storytelling: supporting Fujitsu’s ability to communicate real outcomes from its anniversary initiative through compelling project stories, high‑quality project imagery and supporting materials.

What Fujitsu Says

Why This Matters

Fujitsu represents a global technology leader taking a considered and strategic approach to net zero, supporting high‑integrity projects aligned with its SBTi targets, global operations, and purpose‑led values.

The company is demonstrating responsible use of carbon credits - prioritizing internal education, transparency, and strategic accumulation to support genuine emissions reductions. Their partnership with Climate Impact Partners shows that carbon credits can be part of a credible net zero strategy when used thoughtfully, with expert guidance, and integrated into broader climate action.

By focusing on India-based projects where they operate, investing in biodiversity co-benefits, and pioneering carbon removal technologies, Fujitsu is setting an example for the technology sector on how to build an authentic, impactful climate program.
