Launch of innovative Scottish forestry project will help firm reach science-aligned net-zero targets by 2045.
Climate Impact Partners, a global leader in high-quality, high-impact carbon market solutions, has partnered with DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, on an innovative forestry project to support the firm’s pathway to Net Zero. With a commitment to achieve net zero by 2045, DWF aims to reduce emissions by 90% with the residual 10% compensated for through carbon removals from Broadmeadows, the “DWF Forest”.
The project, located in Yarrowford in the Scottish borders, operates under the UK Woodland Carbon Code (WCC), the quality assurance standard for woodland carbon projects in the UK. It covers 225 hectares of land, much of which was previously used for sheep grazing. More than half a million trees have been planted since 2018, including a mix of conifers and native broadleaves.
Following a series of extensive surveys covering biodiversity, heritage, landscape, soils and tree selection, the project was developed with community feedback incorporated into the project design. Providing direct access to the project, pathways have been designed for the local community and are well-used.
Working in partnership with Climate Impact Partners, DWF is exclusively supporting the project, demonstrating innovation and leadership on net zero and nature restoration. Whilst there is a growing expectation that all businesses will have a net zero ambition, the firm is aligning to best practice for a business of its size by independently investing in this significant project.
Sir Nigel Knowles, Chief Executive Officer of DWF, said: "Our Pathway to Net Zero represents our commitment to meaningful and measurable climate action. The DWF Forest is a long-term investment in environmental stewardship, going beyond carbon removal to actively restore nature and biodiversity. As the sole investor in this project, we have direct oversight to ensure real positive impact, reinforcing our responsibility to conduct business sustainably and with integrity.”
Sheri Hickock, Chief Executive Officer at Climate Impact Partners commented: "We are proud to be part of DWF's ambitious climate strategy, partnering on a high-integrity carbon removal project. The DWF Forest demonstrates DWF's leadership, highlighting how businesses can address residual emissions while delivering impact beyond their own value chain. As a partner that bridges clients with projects, we ensure the right fit and long-term integrity. This is a standout example of a powerful match, driving real, measurable and sustainable climate impact.”
Alec Telfer, Landowner of Broadmeadows, the DWF Forest, said: "For me, this forest is not just about planting trees, it’s about nurturing a modern and diverse farm for the future while staying rooted in the local community I care deeply about. Working alongside DWF on the enhancement and maintenance of the DWF Forest initiative which not only addresses climate change but also plays a key role in restoring biodiversity and benefiting our local community. We look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have for generations to come."
