Crow Lake Wind Power, USA

Type: Sustainable Infrastructure | Renewable Energy
Region: North America
Standard: VCS

While wind energy is a growing source of electricity generation in the USA, in 2022 it only contributed around 10% of the overall electricity generation mix, electricity generated from coal contributed 18%.

Crow Lake Wind is a 162-megawatt wind farm located near Chamberlain, South Dakota. Due to substantial growth in South Dakota’s wind energy capacity, wind has become the state’s primary energy source, supplying over half of its electricity.

The project generates emissions reductions by displacing fossil fuel-powered electricity. As of today, there are more American jobs in the wind power industry than in coal, signaling an important shift in the US energy industry away from fossil fuels and towards more clean, renewable energy.

In addition to delivering emissions reductions to take climate action (SDG 13), the project delivers other benefits:

  • Affordable and Clean Energy: Contributes to increasing the share of renewable energy in the US as well as global energy mix. Clean electricity generated by this projects displaces electricity which would otherwise be powered by fossil fuels.

Our goal is to deliver 1 billion tonnes of emissions reductions

100+ million tonnes of emissions reduced through carbon finance
