CORSIA & Compliance Credits

CORSIA and other compliance carbon markets are creating new demand for high-quality, eligible carbon credits. Meeting those requirements can be complex. Different schemes have their own eligibility criteria, accounting rules and compliance deadlines, while access to suitable supply can be limited. We help you navigate those requirements, identify eligible projects and secure credits that meet your obligations - backed by our own rigorous project-level due diligence.

Access carefully selected credits that meet the eligibility requirements of the relevant compliance scheme.

Every project we sell must also pass Climate Impact Partners' own due diligence.

Navigate host country authorization, corresponding adjustments and international carbon accounting requirements.

Plan ahead to secure eligible credits, manage delivery risk and prepare for future compliance periods.

Building a reliable supply of compliance-eligible credits requires more than understanding today's market.
Our project development and Article 6 specialists work with governments, project partners and local communities to design and develop high-quality carbon projects that can meet the requirements of international compliance markets.
From identifying suitable methodologies and navigating host country requirements to project development, financing, carbon accounting and ongoing delivery, we bring together the technical, legal and commercial expertise needed to develop new sources of supply. Our direct experience of developing projects and working with partners on the ground also informs how we assess the quality and delivery potential of the credits we offer.

CORSIA stands for the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation. Developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), it requires covered aircraft operators to meet applicable international aviation offsetting obligations using eligible emissions units. Airlines can also reduce their offsetting requirements through qualifying CORSIA Eligible Fuels.
There are two distinct features of CORSIA-eligible credits. Firstly, credits must meet ICAO's eligibility requirements for the relevant compliance period, including applicable certification standard program, methodology, vintage, activity and accounting conditions. Secondly, the project owner must have received confirmation that the project’s host country will provide a corresponding adjustment for the credits. Once both features are in place, the certification standard program will tag the credits as CORSIA-eligible in their registry, and they can be used by airlines for CORSIA compliance. Approval of a carbon crediting program alone does not mean that every credit it issues is CORSIA-eligible.
CORSIA is an international aviation scheme that allows the use of eligible carbon credits. Other compliance markets have their own rules, and some operate primarily through emissions allowances rather than project-based credits. Credits eligible for one scheme cannot automatically be used in another.
Corresponding adjustments are accounting measures used under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to prevent the same emissions reduction or removal from being counted towards more than one country's climate target. Host country authorization and the relevant accounting requirements are important considerations when sourcing credits for international compliance use.
Not every carbon credit qualifies for compliance use. Program approvals, methodology restrictions, credit vintages, host country authorization and other requirements can limit the supply available for a particular scheme or compliance period.
