Leading the expansion of I-REC globally

Natural Capital Partners has retained its I-REC leadership position and is the first company to have cancelled more than 5 million International REC Standard (I-REC) renewable energy certificates on behalf of its clients, playing a critical role in the transformation to a low carbon electricity grid.

Clients including VMware, Sopra Steria, Microsoft and Logitech, work with Natural Capital Partners to meet their renewable energy targets with portfolios of renewable energy certificates generated in locations to match their consumption. I-REC was founded in 2014 to build the tracking systems that are essential for reliable, credible renewable energy consumption claims in countries beyond the European GO system or North American REC systems.

Having completed some of the first transactions of I-RECs in 2015, Natural Capital Partners has continued to build widespread adoption of the standard across a number of countries, including China, Israel, Uganda, the Philippines, Brazil, India, Singapore and Vietnam.

The I-REC Standard is a non-profit organisation that provides a robust standard for use around the world to track the renewable attributes of electricity. This standard requires local stakeholders and government authorities to implement it in their countries and ensure it meets local and national regulations.
